This Sunday, September 17th was the annual Highland Show at America's Oldest Fair, the York Fair. Wurzbach Farms exhibited 5 cattle and had three juniors showing. Everyone had a great weekend of fun, friends, and farming. In this blog, I hope you will begin to see the friendships formed through showing cattle; the friends we make even come closer to a second family.

This year, we had sixteen juniors showing at the York Fair- a new record! I started showing Highlands when I was five years old. When I was that little, I remember watching the Senior Showman to try and improve my technique. Now, the tables have turned and the youth are now looking to me to learn how to show to the best of their ability. I love helping the youth. As the future of our organization, we need to work hard to teach others to uphold the purpose of our breed.
To me, I can attribute many of my jobs and successes to growing up on a farm and showing cattle. The lessons I've learned through showing cattle are priceless and I cannot be more thankful to have this opportunity.
The 2017 York Fair proved to be a great one for the juniors. With a record-breaking number of youth showman, this is a show for the books! We hope to continue the legacy of this many showman and get more in the upcoming year. Ryanne Hoffman was this year's Grand Champion Showman- Great job Ryanne! After the show, the juniors gathered to eat some delicious Highland Cow cake and pizza! A special thanks goes out to Apple Hill Farms and Spring Flight Farms for purchasing the cake and pizza.

I think it is safe to say that the 2017 York Fair was a huge success! Everyone did a fantastic job showing their animals and great sportsmanship was shown. At a setting where we get to educate the public about the Grand Ole' Breed, the York Fair did a fantastic job again. Until next time...
