Brogue, a small village of 2,086 residents, is home to the 35 year-old company, Brogue Hydroponics. Brogue Hydroponics grows pesticide-free hydroponic produce ranging from tomatoes, to lettuce, to herbs. Vegetables grown hydroponically means that they are grown in water. From the beginning of my employment in March of this year until now, I learned much about a different sector of agriculture that may help me in the future.
Brogue Hydroponics employs many individuals with many different tasks for everyone. For me, I work at the greenhouse on Wednesdays and markets on Saturdays. At the greenhouse, I work together with other employees to cut and wash lettuce, cut herbs, work with flowers, and other jobs they have for me to do. When I work at Lancaster Central Market, I arrive at the greenhouse at 4:30 am, help load the van with produce, and head to Lancaster. At market, we work to keep the shelves stocked and help customers as best we can.
I enjoy working at Lancaster Central Market the most. I learn very much from working at a farmer's market. From working at market, I learned how to best interact with customers, ways to work with others in a limited space, ways to make change, and so much more. As an individual who may want to sell my product at a farmer's market in the future, my job at Brogue Hydroponics is crucial in future success of Wurzbach Farms.
