Eat Local

With a family of five busy individuals, finding time to have a family dinner are few and far between. Tonight, my mom, sister Abby, and I sat down at the kitchen table and had an actual sit-down meal together. Earlier in the day, I was cleaning out and organizing two of the four chest freezers full of meat we have at the barn and decided I wanted to make something for dinner, since we would all be home.
In a box of older steaks that are fine for our family to eat, but not to sell, I found a Porterhouse Steak. The Porterhouse is one of the nicest steaks. A bone-in steak comprised of a filet mignon and New York strip steak, the porterhouse always delivers great taste. When searching for different recipes online, I eventually decided on one of the easiest ones I could find.
Because of the tenderness and great marbling of the grass fed quality Highland beef, I only seasoned the steak with some salt and pepper. After generously coating each side with some Himalayan salt and ground black pepper, I heated up the grill. When grilling the Porterhouse, I put each side on for about five minutes, then flip. Depending on your preference, you may want to keep the steak on longer. My family loves a medium rare steak.

When the steak was ready, I brought it inside and called everyone to the table to eat. Along with Wurzbach Farms beef, we had local veggies from Brogue Hydroponics and bread from the local market.

Buying local food helps the local farmers and economy out. I think local tastes better. Make sure to remember to thank your farmer. Without them, you would starve!
