A Taste into Teaching: Life Knowledge

On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to spend the day at Oley Valley High School to teach a life knowledge lesson. For the lesson, I decided to use a leadership lesson. In the lesson, students were exposed to the definition of leadership, different leadership qualities, and ways they can be positive leaders in everyday life.

After teaching two sections of freshman classes, I got a better understanding of the classroom dynamic and students. With this information, I am able to better fit my lessons for the students' needs.

All in all, I think my life knowledge lesson went well, but I would have preferred to teach a lesson I created for the first time with these students. While using already created lesson plans, the teacher may find it easy, but I could see my students losing interest. With that being said, one must always make adaptations to a lesson if they do not create them. After this experience, I recognize that even if a pre-made lesson says the information can be taught in a 40 minute section, that is probably going to be hard to achieve. Going into student teaching next semester, I am excited to continue honing my teaching skills to become the best teacher I can be!
