After three days in Atlanta for IPPE, two days of teaching, and my first FFA meeting, I know that Oley Valley High School is treating me well.

3 Days in Atlanta, GA

After winning 1st in the Food Science CDE at the PA competition, Oley Valley FFA moved onto the national competition in Indianapolis, IN. At the awards luncheon, we found out that the four members of the food science team finished 6th in the nation. The US Poultry Foundation sponsored the top 12 teams in the Food Science and 10 teams in the Poultry Judging CDE.

At this event, we had the opportunity to attend the massive IPPE, International Production and Processing Expo. It was the biggest convention that I have ever been to by far. The various halls had very impressive set-ups of the equipment and information available for attendees. Along with the expo hall, we attended a welcome ceremony at the aquarium, the world of Coke museum, and the olympic park for the 1996 games. All of the opportunities and information provided to the students was very encouraging for future jobs in the field.

2 Days of Teaching

On Monday and Friday, I had the opportunity to continue improving my teaching skills in the Natural Resource Management class. On Monday, we focused on urbanization and urban planning. On Friday, we reflected on what we learned the past three days when I left sub plans, and started talking about farmland conservation. Next week, we will be covering soils before our land use and soils unit test the following week.

My First FFA Meeting

After a long week of travel and teaching, my first FFA meeting was a success! Mrs. Rice was the role of the advisor for this meeting, but I was told to be ready with the "here by the owl" for next time. At Oley, they hold their club meetings during school. At the end of the meeting, members were welcomed to having doughnuts and milk. I am excited to see how much the chapter grows and accomplishes over the next few weeks!
