Fox Tale Farm: SAE Visit #1

For my first SAE Visit, I took a trip to Fox Tale Farm. Oley Valley's FFA President works at Fox Tale Farm twice a week during the school year. At her job, she is responsible for feeding and turning out about 33 horses. Mr. Deysher and I spent about an hour and a half at her job to see how she does her job.
Over our time together, the students showed us the organization of the barn. Each horse has a unique diet and turn out schedule. She must work closely with the owner of the farm to make sure she feeds each horse correctly. Attention to detail is crucial in this job.
Before our visit to Foxtail Farm, Mr. Deysher and I checked the student's AET. She does a good job of making sure that she keeps her journal of working hours and income up to date. We suggested that she work to improve her tracking on the different activities that she is involved in.
At Oley, all students in the FFA Leadership class are required to have an SAE. The SAE is evaluated as pass/fail. As long as the students are doing a good job with their job and records, they will pass. If students are planning on applying for their Keystone Degree, they have to keep a good eye on their application and AET.
I loved learning more about our local community in Oley. Through meeting more people at the horse barn, taking a ride around Oley, and learning more about the community was so awesome! I want to thank Mr. Deysher and my student for taking me around the community and learning more about student SAEs!
